What would it take to change fashion from the ground up?
Fashion Revolution NZ has some great ideas and is inviting people to take part in its upcoming event, “Fashion, but reimagined” which includes a special screening of celebrated film Fashion Reimagined (2022) at Bridgeway Cinema, Northcote, Tāmaki Makaurau / Auckland on April 21 during Fashion Revolution Week.
The award winning documentary film follows British fashion designer and former creative director of Mother of Pearl, Amy Powney on her journey to create a collection that’s ethical from field to finished garment.
Powney stepped down from her role at Mother of Pearl in February 2025 to launch a new, purpose-driven brand Akyn.

Fashion designer Amy Powney continues to push for deeper, systemic changes within the fashion industry via her new label Akyn.
“This isn’t just a film night. It’s an invitation to rethink our relationship with clothes,” says Fashion Revolution NZ co-country coordinator Amanda Butterworth.
Attendees are invited to wear their “reimagined” best (secondhand, vintage, or NZ made) garments as well as bring high quality pre-loved items for donation.
There will also the chance to shop racks of high quality clothing, before and after the film screening. As well as add a personal touch to Fashion Revolution NZ’s community quilt, and connect with a community “passionate about slowing down “.
The idea is to gather, get inspired, and imagine a better fashion future together, says Butterworth.
“Every garment has a story – and we all have the power to shape what comes next.”
The event runs from 6pm to 8.30pm and tickets can be found here.
