It’s rare to sip a gin while gazing toward the place it was made, but on a clear day from rooftop Bar Albert the ridgeline of Waiheke Distilling Co. appears on the horizon.

Recently Auckland’s highest hotel rooftop destination announced its partnership with Waiheke Island-based Waiheke Distilling Co., resulting in the creation of Bar Albert Gin – a bespoke London Dry style gin available exclusively here. And having tried it, I urge gin connoisseurs to take note. Even better, come here to try it.

The collaboration is a perfect brand synergy that bridges the waters between Auckland’s skyline and Waiheke Island and co-owner and chief distiller at Waiheke Distilling Co., Glen Cadwallader has crafted a spirit that captures the essence of both locations.

It’s worth travelling 38 floors in the lift for the panoramic views from Bar Albert in Auckland city and to try this outstanding gin.

Bar Albert Gin is clean and classic and features eight carefully selected botanicals. It presents a refined and aromatic profile which while wonderful in a cocktail mix, is so aromatically divine that gin lovers will appreciate this with plain soda to savour its complexity of bright citrus flavours and lingering liquorice.

The boutique, family-owned distillery has a focus on sustainability and craftmanship, which was also appealing to The Bar Albert who share an appreciation of the ‘garden to glass’ philosophy behind Waiheke Distilling Co.’s artisan Island Spirit range.

Curating a bespoke gin that encapsulates their shared hospitality values and awe-inspiring views felt like an ideal collaboration and connects the hospitality venues across the water where guests can taste Bar Albert Gin while looking back toward the island where it was made.

Bar Albert Gin is available exclusively at Bar Albert, Level 38 of voco Auckland City Centre and we can hand on heart say that it’s worth travelling 38 floors in the lift for the view and a tipple or a few.
